Tiny Human Moments is a collaborative installation created with artist and art educator Amanda Amsel. It is currently on view in Amazon's western window in South Lake Union Seattle, WA, on Harrison and Boren St. This project is supported and funded by Shunpike's Storefronts program and will be exhibited from March until July 2017.
Tiny Human Moments investigates the psychological process and energy of exchanges between teachers and pupils. Amanda and I used the inspiration found in observing young makers phases of learning and creative practice to illustrate explorations of line formation and symbol making at different stages of artistic development. Together we created simultaneously on the same surface in short bursts, imitating a type of studio atmosphere similar to our classrooms.
In our collaborative exchanges we collected and repeated found marks by means of reprinting a photographed copy, allowing it to become altered and faded. An implied texture was created of an actual texture. The mark became a memory of the original. These memories layered on top and in between the surfaces made the world of our imagination visible, inspired through the eyes of children.
On May 25th Amanda and I will be speaking about our collaborative process during the South Lake Union Art Walk. For more information about the artwalk and its featured artists read about Storefront's new installations.
